Last Market of 2021!

The Market will not be open on the 23rd and 30th of December as we are taking this time to recharge and regroup for the coming year.

We will reopen on the 6th of January promoting “Veganary”.

Each market day hosts special themed  events and entertainment! We are currently planning and booking entertainment for the coming months.

Of course with any changes due to COVID we will pivot our plans as per AHS guidelines.   We are considered an essential service which allows us to operate.

The market will be indoors until May 19th – unless mother nature provides some warmer weather that we can move outdoors.

If time allows today, stop by the Market today!

Merry Christmas , all the best in 2022!

OCL Rink

OCL Rink Update

The OCL rinks will continue to operate differently this year.

Due to COVID -19 regulations, the volunteer-staffed rink shack will not be open to start the season. We will have benches outside to use, and our patio area will be accessible. There will be a porta-potty on site. Hand sanitizer will be provided.

Community Guidelines

Ottewell Community League has two rinks.

One is an outdoor, boarded ice Hockey Rink with nets, and the second surface is the Skating Rink made available for families.

PLEASE keep the small rink open for families with smaller children to skate freely. Hockey is to be played on the large rink so the little kids can learn how to skate without fear of fast-moving pucks and big kids!

Weather permitting, Ottewell will be opening both rinks in early December. Lights for both rinks will be on from 5pm to 9pm, 7 days a week. Please note that there will be no attendant or staff member on-site.

Thanks to our Volunteers that are giving their time to flood and maintain the ice to ensure the kids of Ottewell have some outdoor fun!

Rink Rules

• Skate at your own risk.

• Wear your helmet.

• Share the space. We all want to enjoy the pond rink.

• Play safe, and if you don’t feel well, stay home

• Please use the garbage cans provided. Keep our rink area clean!

As per AHS guidelines:

Physically distance when multiple cohorts are sharing the ice;

• Wash or sanitize your hands before and after each skate;

• Refrain from spitting and clearing nasal passages;

• Refrain from sharing equipment or water bottles;

• Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, mouth, and face; and,

• Stay home if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Looking to brush up on your writing?

We’re looking for a volunteer to help coordinate the Ottewell pages of the South East Voice.

Every month the Southeast Voice is put together and delivered to your doorstep by volunteers just like you!

You’ll help keep the community connected, write about current events, and coordinate the different volunteers to submit updates for their area of focus. This is a great way to sharpen your critical thinking and collaboration skills if you’re looking for a resume booster, while also earning yourself a free membership and discounted hall rental fee.

All you need is a few hours a month, a computer, and a willingness to learn. We’ll teach you how to do the rest!

Community Swim Program Update

The Community League Swim Program will remain on hold for the remainder of 2021.

As noted earlier, one of the primary delays for not being able to resume this program this Fall is the shortage of staff, in particular, the shortage of lifeguards. Efforts are ongoing to recruit, hire and train more lifeguards.

At this time, we do not have enough lifeguards to return to pre-pandemic operating hours in the pools, so the focus at this time will be to continue to offer as many public swim opportunities as possible. As noted in earlier messages, the amount of staff per shift will determine the amount of public that are permitted in the pool at a time

Any updates will be provided on our Website and Facebook pages.

Thank you,
The City of Edmonton Community Swim Program
